Greensboro’s Water Quality & Emerging Contaminants

Mike Borchers has been the Director, Water Resources since 2020. He provides overall management and direction of municipal water, sewer and stormwater services for the city of Greensboro.

Mike joined the City of Greensboro Water Resources Department in 2005 as the Stormwater Planning and Engineering Section Supervisor. He subsequently has served as the Engineering Division Manager and the Department Assistant Director.

Mike has previous experience in the water services industry from 1994 to 2005 with operations roles at Molten Metal Technology and Honeywell Specialty Materials. From 1989 to 1994, he served in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear power program. He earned a bachelor of engineering degree from SUNY Maritime College and a master’s of science in environmental engineering from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville.

Mike is an active member of the Triad community, serving in his church. Hobbies include hiking, bike riding and raising two energetic puppies. Mike is married to Catherine who has shown him much grace and patience for almost 34 years. They have a 16-year old son named Matthew.
