Workforce Development Now!

Dr. Anthony J. Clarke (Tony) became the eighth president of Guilford Technical Community College in 2019. After serving in the U.S. Army, Tony spent almost two decades working in various industries in the private sector. He worked as a production engineer for General Mills, a consulting manager for Arthur Andersen LLP, and a six sigma quality leader at GE Aircraft Engines.

Prior to joining GTCC, Tony served as president of Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina and vice president of Instruction at Richmond Community College in Hamlet, North Carolina.  Tony began his community college career in 2005 at Gateway Community and Technical College in Kentucky where he progressed from an adjunct instructor to Dean in workforce development focused on advanced manufacturing.

Tony earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, and a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville. He holds a doctorate of Philosophy in Organizational Behavior from the Union Institute & University in Cincinnati.

Tony and his wife, Margaret, live in Jamestown. They have a son, Tony Jr.; daughter-in-law, Elisa; and three grandchildren, James, Autumn, and Summer, all of whom reside in northern Kentucky.
