This week’s program will focus on a Greensboro-headquartered business, Biscuitville, and examine the challenges of maintaining the brand and culture during its rapid growth and brand transformation. Executive Chair

Burney Jennings currently serves as Executive Chair of Biscuitville, Inc., a family-owned quick service restaurant chain currently operating over 70 locations in North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Biscuitville Fresh Southern® opened its first restaurant in 1966 and has grown into a formidable quick service competitor.

Having graduated from Elon University in 1987, Burney remains engaged with Elon as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. Other current community affiliations include Rotary Club of Greensboro and Greensboro Sports Council. In addition, Burney currently serves as Chair of the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association (NCRLA).

President and CEO

Joined Biscuitville in 2010 and in the ensuing 13 years has transformed the brand and shepherded significant growth in the company.

In 2014, she led the rebranding of Biscuitville, which included the addition of FRESH SOUTHERN® to its name; remodeling, relocating or rebuilding 100% of its restaurants; and a re-energized commitment to sourcing locally. Currently over 90% of all orders include at least one local ingredient. In 2018, she was promoted to President to prepare the brand for growth and continue executing the brands 9-year plan. In 2021, Niven was promoted to President and CEO reporting to the Executive Chair and 2nd generation owner, Burney Jennings. Since joining in 2010, Mrs. Niven has enjoyed an executive leadership role in driving Biscuitville’s growth from $55mm to over $150mm.

Prior to joining Biscuitville, Kathie had significant leadership roles in a large number of national brands including Quiznos, Burger King, Arbys, and Burger King.
