Emergency Donation Made to Tornado Relief Fund for Teachers

A Message from President Lori Haddock

Lori Haddock, 2017-18 President Rotary Club of Greensboro

I am so pleased to announce that on Wednesday our Board unanimously approved a $5,000 donation to Guilford Education Alliance (GEA) to provide direct support to the 150 teachers and educators in the three schools (Hampton, Peeler and Erwin) that are relocating their classrooms to new school buildings. This donation is to help with $75,000 that is being raised in the community to help the teachers of nearly 1000 students that were displaced by the tornado. One hundred percent of the contribution will go to directly support the teachers and educators in the three impacted schools.

The funds will be used to purchase the supplies and materials they need that are not being provided through the supply drives and donations now underway. These teachers need to make purchases right now so that students walk into stocked, functional and welcoming classrooms on Monday. The teachers had to leave everything behind, and most of what was left behind has been damaged or destroyed. So, storage bins, staplers, area rugs, flash drives, bulletin board materials, posters, etc. will need to be purchased.

This is one of the reasons our annual fundraiser is so important! Our club makes a difference in our community with our contributions and our efforts.  I am proud of our club for stepping up, and I have no doubt that many of you are also helping in other ways. Many thanks to all of you for making a difference!

Blessings to each of you,
Lori
