Guilford County Schools – Delivering Excellence During the Time of COVID

Winston McGregor is a community leader with a focus on non-profits and public private partnerships.  She has served full-time as executive director of the Guilford Education Alliance since 2013.  In July of 2018, McGregor and was appointed to fill an open seat and then elected in November to serve a full term on the Guilford County Board of Education as the at-large member representing the whole county.  In her capacity as a member of the Board of Education, McGregor serves as Chair of the Policy Committee and as a member of the Joint Capital/Facilities Planning Committee.

Winston has been an engaged advocate on education, equity, housing and community issues for more than two decades.  She serves on the Steering Committee for Triad Workforce Solutions Collaborative, the Board of Directors of NCCJ and the leadership team of Onward!  In 2015 Winston was honored as an Outstanding Woman in Business by the Triad Business Journal and with her leadership GEA was named the Non-Profit of the Year by the Guilford Non-Profit Consortium.

Previously, McGregor spent a decade with Habitat for Humanity Greensboro including six years as president and executive director.  A graduate of American University in Washington, DC, she spent the earlier years of her career working in the national political arena, in various roles with first U.S. Senator and then Vice President Al Gore, as director of development for the Democratic Leadership Council and the Progressive Policy Institute and as executive director of the American Council of Young Political Leaders.  A Greensboro native, Winston’s two sons attended Lindley Elementary School, Kiser Middle School and Grimsley High School.  They now attend Appalachian State University and NC State University.
