Arnold Palmer and the Masters

Jim Dodson is the Founding Editor of O.Henry, Salt and Seasons Style & Design magazines; Editor of PineStraw Magazine; Editorial Director of Business North Carolina Magazine and Founding Editor of The North Carolinian, a new statewide Arts and Culture Magazine in partnership with UNC-TV, planned to debut March 2018. An award-winning journalist and author of 14 books, Jim has been the recipient of numerous awards for writing and citizenship, including the Herbert Warren Wind Award Winner twice for Ben Hogan, An American Life and American Triumvirate; the prestigious Donald Ross Award and the Order of the Longleaf Pine.

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1953, Jim grew up in Greensboro where his family dates back generations. His father was a newspaperman and advertising executive and the family lived several places across the deep South before returning home to Greensboro in 1960.

Jim graduated from Grimsley High School in 1971 and went on to attend East Carolina University, graduating with a BA in English and History in 1975. He is a Distinguished Alumni of East Carolina and a member ECU’s Board of Visitors.

His professional career started as an intern/reporter at the Greensboro Daily News & Record in 1976-77. He continued with roles at The Atlanta Journal & Constitution Sunday Magazine, Yankee Magazine, Golf Magazine, Departures Magazine and was a writer in residence at Hollins University. Since 2005, he has been the Sunday Essayist and Writer-in-residence at The Pilot Newspaper. In addition, Jim is the author of numerous books including A Golfer’s Life (with Arnold Palmer), Ballantine Books, 1999.
