A Former Top NFL Referee now with the Oakland Raiders Organization

Rotarian Gerald Austin’s career continues to evolve from his early days, as a Guilford County YMCA sports official. Following 27 years as an NFL referee, officiating 3 Super Bowls, he was forced to retire. He then became a rules analyst for ESPN. The ever active Austin has now accepted an invitation by the Oakland Raiders head coach John Gruden to be a staff consultant on NFL rules.

Dr. Austin graduated from Western Carolina and received his PhD from UNC-Greensboro. The Summerfield resident and father of 6 children remains active and passionate about football. Gerald has been a member of the Rotary Club of Greensboro for 36 years.
