The Battle of Guilford Courthouse and Why It’s so Important . . . Even Today
Jim is a Greensboro native, graduating from Grimsley Senior High School. Following receiving his Assoc. BA at Georgia Military College, he graduated from Wake Forest University with a BA in History in 1972.
Jim served as an infantry officer in the US Marine Corps from 1972-1975. Following his honorable discharge, he became a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch. He retired from Merrill Lynch after 41 years in 2015. Currently he is involved in several volunteer capacities primarily as a Board Member of Caldwell Academy and as a long time Founder, President, and Chairman Emeritus of the Board of the Guilford Battleground Company 1983-present.
Jim has served on numerous local, regional, and state Boards and Commissions. He was elected to the Greensboro City Council in 1981 and served 3 terms as an at large representative and Mayor Pro Tempore. In 1988 he was elected to the Guilford County Commissioners.
He has been blessed with a wonderful son, daughter in law, and 4 incredible grandchildren. He lives with his beloved wife of 46 years, Jane, on a farm in northern Guilford County and has one dog and one cat…and a John Deere tractor!
