Responding to the Refugee Crisis in Moldova: Building on Existing Relationships

Nancy Hoffart serves as co-chair of the North Carolina-Moldova Nursing Collaborative. Before her retirement in 2021 she spent 30 years as a faculty member in four schools of nursing, starting in Kansas City, then ‘migrating’ to Boston, to Beirut, and finally to Greensboro. As a teacher, researcher, and administrator she has worked with both undergraduate and graduate nursing students, conducted research to improve the practice environment for the nursing workforce, and established many new academic programs. Since 2009 she has been involved in efforts to advance the nursing profession, and thus the health care systems, in low and middle-income countries. Upon moving to Greensboro in 2016 she joined the North Carolina-Moldova Nursing Collaborative and has been involved in efforts to align nursing education there with international standards.

Hoffart received her BS in nursing from South Dakota State University, MS in nursing from the University of Minnesota, and PhD in nursing from the University of Virginia. She completed a post-doctoral research fellowship as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Nurse Scholar at the University of Rochester. She has over 50 publications and has received many awards for her professional contributions.
