The Volunteer Center – Connecting the Community to Nonprofit Organizations Since 1963
Barbie Patterson serves as the Director of Programs for The Volunteer Center of the Triad. In her role she manages programs such as Corporate Caring and Community Compass. Patterson also oversees the popular community event, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
The Mission of The Volunteer Center has remained the same since 1963… To strengthen our community by creating meaningful volunteer connections. We connect people, promote volunteerism, support nonprofits, and build partnerships.
Prior to her time at The Volunteer Center, Patterson has worked for the YMCA of Greensboro and the American Cancer Society in both development and program management roles. During her time at ACS, she served the Great West Division. She oversaw the work of the staff and volunteers of the 80 Cancer Resource Centers over the 12 state division, providing programs and services to over 100,000 cancer patients a year.
Originally from Arizona, Patterson found herself freezing in Ohio at The University of Findlay. There she received degrees in Communication with a Journalism emphasis and Equestrian Studies, after which she promptly moved back to Tucson. She and her family moved to the Greensboro area five years ago and have fallen in love with the area.
