As a mom, business person, and community leader, Kathy Manning has spent the last 30 years bringing people together to solve problems in our community.
Kathy’s great-grandparents came to this country fleeing religious persecution with nothing but a determination to work hard and get a good education for their children. Kathy’s father worked for Ford Motor Company for 40 years and her mom was a public school teacher.
After graduating from Harvard University and the University of Michigan Law School, Kathy moved with her husband to his hometown of Greensboro, NC in 1987, where they have raised their three children. After serving as a partner at a major law firm for 15 years, Kathy left to start her own small business.
As a community and nonprofit leader, Kathy has held leadership positions within numerous organizations, including United Way, Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Kathy helped spearhead the effort to build the Greensboro Children’s Museum, Triad Stage, and the new Greensboro Performing Arts Center. Kathy was also the first woman to lead one of the largest charitable, faith-based organizations in the world.
Kathy is the recipient the 2014 Charles Duncan McIver Award given by University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the 2013 Jim Roach Downtown Person of the Year Award presented by Downtown Greensboro.
