The Tanger Center – A New and Exciting Story

Most of us are familiar with the Tanger Center, but there is a new and exciting story to tell. We have Rotary member Walker Sanders and Tanger Center Manager Scott Johnson to tell the story.

H. Walker Sanders is president of The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. Its mission is to inspire giving, maximize opportunities, and strengthen communities for present and future generations. With assets of over $300 million and approximately 700 charitable funds under management, it promotes philanthropy by addressing emerging community issues, managing permanent endowments, and working with individuals, families, corporations, private foundations, and nonprofit organizations in achieving their charitable objectives.
Under Sanders’ leadership, the Foundation has played an instrumental role in many community initiatives including the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, the Carolyn and Maurice LeBauer City Park, and Say Yes to Education Guilford.
Sanders serves on several community boards including the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Greensboro, Action Greensboro Advisory Board, and is one of the founding board members of the Triad Business Bank. Sanders is a graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, with degrees in political science and economics.

Scott E. Johnson
General Manager
Oak View Group – Greensboro Coliseum Complex

Scott E. Johnson is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and has a long career in sports and facility management including 34 years with the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. He has served in multiple positions in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex management structure and was recently named the new General Manager as the City shifted to private manager Oak View Group on July 1, 2024. Scott has worked in ticketing, sales, event management, booking, and all deputy director duties. Scott was the Business Manager of UNCG Auditorium at UNC Greensboro in 1990 before starting with Greensboro Coliseum.
Scott manages the booking and operations of more than 1,400 events annually at the Coliseum Complex including its nine venues and new Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. He has assisted in managing the most successful period of the 65-year history of the venue. Johnson has supervised or booked more than 15,000 event days including some of the biggest events in the Triad’s history.
Johnson is a 1990 graduate of Wake Forest University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business and Accountancy.
