Jamie Cosson “Camp Weaver -Rising to the Challenge” (February 24)

February 24, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Jamie Cosson, Executive Director of Camp Weaver

“Camp Weaver- Rising to the Challenge”

Originally from Melbourne Australia, Jamie arrived in 1993 to work at YMCA Camp Cosby, Alpine, AL. After 10 years, he moved to Greensboro NC to serve as the executive director of YMCA Camp Weaver with the dream of building a camp for all children that would become a cornerstone in the Greensboro community. With 18 years now gone by a lot has changed at Camp Weaver. Camp Weaver is bursting at the seams, now serving 2000 children over the summer via overnight/day camps and an additional 12,000 people during school year via the outdoor education and retreats programs. Jamie has overseen over $7M in capital renovations, maintained a budget surplus, achieved significant increases in the annual campaign and created major partnerships.

Camp Weaver is now in the midst of a capital campaign focused on expanding facilities to serve more people in our community. With a strong desire to serve the community in a time of great need, Camp Weaver kept its doors open through the entire COVID epidemic by providing emergency childcare for essential workers, modified summer overnight/day camps, family days and weaver outdoor school, a mix of remote learning and camp activities. All this was done safely and with big impact on families.

Jamie is married to Stacy, a Greensboro Montessori School teacher, has 2 children Isabella, 10 years old and William, 6 years old both duel citizens of the USA and Australia. Jamie is the current YMCA of Greensboro family service team leader. He serves on the board of the North Carolina Youth Camp Association as legislative chair, an American Camp Association lead visitor, member of the Y-USA National Voice and Networking Committee and serves on the Greensboro Montessori board of trustees. Jamie is the recipient of the YMCA of Greensboro character development award and Leadership Greensboro service medal.
