Homo sapiens Rise to Dominance
Originally from St Louis, Mo., Dr. Brodie received a BS degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University but switched directions and received a medical degree from Washington University in St Louis. He completed medical residency at the University of Florida and finished cardiology fellowship at the University of North Carolina, where he served as Assistant Professor of Medicine in cardiology for two years before leaving to begin practice in Greensboro, NC.
Dr. Brodie was co-founder and past chairman of the LeBauer-Brodie Center for Cardiovascular Research and Education in Greensboro, NC. He and his colleagues have been leaders in cardiovascular research and were pioneers in the treatment of heart attacks with balloon angioplasty, coronary stenting and adjunctive therapies. He has authored or co-authored over 200 peer reviewed manuscripts in leading cardiology and medical journals.
Dr. Brodie retired from cardiology practice at Cone Health 2012 and has devoted the last seven years exploring the origin and evolution of life on our planet in an attempt to understand the big picture and address the existential questions of life. This has culminated in the recent publication of his book entitled Why Are We Here? The Story of the Origin, Evolution, and Future of Life on Our Planet.
Dr. Brodie lives in Greensboro with his wife Dora, who is also a retired physician. They have 3 grown children.
