Greensboro Unhoused – Past, Present, and Hopeful Future

Greensboro Rotary will receive a report and update from the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro’s Unhoused Working Group. The Foundation’s initiative is a comprehensive, collaborative to address both immediate needs and long-term solutions for Greensboro’s unhoused population.

The Unhoused Working Group brings together a diverse coalition of stakeholders, including nonprofit service providers, faith organizations, private sector leaders, public sector representatives, and importantly, Greensboro residents with lived experience as unhoused individuals. This inclusive approach ensures that solutions are integrated, practical, and informed by real-world experience.

We’ll hear from:

Tim Rice, who chairs the working group, spent his entire career at Cone Health, from where he retired in 2015 as the CEO. He remains active in many community efforts.

Brian Hahne became the CEO of Greensboro Urban Ministry in January 2023. Brian brings the passion for ending homelessness and the belief that everyone deserves affordable housing and food insecurity must be resolved.

John Thornton serves as the Executive Director of Held, a non-profit that provides direct, no-strings-attached income to people in need. He has a background in congregational ministry as well as a variety of work with the homeless and those in poverty.

As Chief Impact Officer at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Brandon Zeigler oversees a spectrum of capital deployment strategies—from philanthropic grants to market-rate investments. Through this role, he advances initiatives that drive economic mobility, improve health and wellness, and broaden access to arts and culture.
