Freebird McKinney (April 14)
April 14, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Freebird McKinney, Director of Legislative and Community Affairs, NC State Board of Education
We Strive and Rise, Together
Freebird McKinney will share with out about the partnership between Go Global N, Rotary International Club (District 7690), and the Vocational Training Team Model for the 2021-2022 Australia Program.
Freebird McKinney currently serves as the NC State Board of Education/Department of Public Instruction’s Director of Government and Community Affairs. This role has allowed him the opportunity to “build bridges” across NC between the SBE/ DPI, and the Governor’s office, the General Assembly, and each and every school district, as well as the multiple education advocacy groups and organizations who are collectively working to move public education forwards in our state. For the last fifteen years, he has also served as a “Village Teacher.” As the 2018 North Carolina State Teacher of the Year, he had the honor of inspiring countless young men and women inside and outside of the classroom, both in public high schools (for 14 years), and at Elon University, as a School of Education adjunct professor. His mission continues to represent the role of an “Educator Diplomat” in acting as a conduit to support policy and decision makers as they work to elevate NC Public Schools. Whether it is motivating students to find their own voices and roles as citizens of this world through education or working with all sectors of education advocacy to advance equity and opportunity, Freebird is committed in his service to the students, schools, and communities of NC. He believes, ultimately, that through collective and committed relationship building, we can shape our united future through an “Education Culture Transformation.”
