Why Tournament Town Shines

Kim Strable began serving as the Deputy Director of the Greensboro Sports Foundation in January, 2019 following a nine year stint as President of the Greensboro Sports Commission.  There, he helped secure and service sporting events to produce a strong economic impact for the Greater Greensboro area.  A native of Celina, Ohio, he earned his B.A. from Albion College (MI) in speech communication and physical education and an M.A. in physical education from Western Michigan University.  The majority of his professional career was spent in higher education, beginning with admissions and alumni development roles at Albion and Guilford colleges, and for 20 years as the Director of Athletics at Greensboro College, where he also coached men’s and women’s tennis.

Kim is credited with helping Greensboro become the first to host the combined men’s and women’s NCAA soccer championships in 2004 and repeated in 2005, 2008, 2017 and 2018. The NCAA III Soccer Championships are scheduled in Greensboro through the 2021 championships at the UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium.

He is a member of the North Carolina Sports Association, Greensboro Sports Council, Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame Board, Corrigan-Faircloth Chapter of the National Football Foundation Board of Directors, and a committee member for the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Athletics Advisory Committee and has earned Certified Sports Event Executive status from the National Association of Sports Commissions. A 2009 inductee into the Greensboro College Athletics Hall of Fame, Kim has served since 2015 as an Adjunct Professor in Event Management at High Point University.
